March 24, 2021

Dear friends,

As I announced my new pastoral appointment, I initially wrote there is room for conversation about my family’s involvement in the transition. I wrote this because much is unknown both for Amite and for my family during this season. Writing those words seemed like a good response to these unknowns.

However, I believe differently now. I believe my family and I need to make choices that are in keeping with the direction the Lord is leading us, and the Lord is leading our family to the town of Zachary and to LSU in Baton Rouge. While I and each member of our family love this church, it is going to be best for our family to move on at the end of June. Like Abram who was called to “go to the land that I will show you” and he and his household went with him, and like Jesus who in this season of Lent “set his face to go to Jerusalem”, we need to move into this new season with trust and faith in the future the Lord has for us.

This past week Allison wrote the following to the Staff Parish Relations committee.

Initially I shared that there was room for conversation about my position and next steps with the Youth Ministry and Contemporary Worship at FUMC Amite. After further conversations, consideration, and prayer I believe it is best for me to offer my resignation effective June 30, 2021. I will begin actively seeking new employment. It has been a joy to serve and lead the ministries of this church.

This past week Shellie also turned in her resignation. Her role as Interim Children’s Director was originally to have been for the summer of 2020 as an assistance to the church during the pandemic. The SPR committee continued her Interim role into the school year, and Shellie wrote last November that in the spring she would need to reevaluate her commitment in light of her studies at LSU. This past week Shellie wrote the following.

As I wrote on November 30th of last year to you, I was expecting to have to reevaluate my commitment in the Children's Ministry during the spring. With that said, I’d like to notify you that I am resigning from my position as Interim Children’s Director. My last day will be April 25, 2021. Between end-of-semester final projects, my upcoming wisdom teeth removal surgery, my brother’s graduation and the celebrations my family has planned in regards to that, as well as the focus I need to put on preparing with my family to move, resigning is the best decision I can make for both myself and our church. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve at the church over the last year. I’ve come to realize how much I’ve grown in my leadership through working with the children, and I foresee that the experience I’ve gained will be very valuable for me in the future.

As these months of transition unfold before us, I will be in prayer for the Staff Parish Relations committee and our Church Council as our congregation prepares for a new season. I and my family will continue to help, support, and guide in every way that we can until my new appointment begins on July 1, 2021. May the grace and providence of God rest upon His Church. Amen.

In Christ,

Josh Milliron
